Mengikut peraturan baru daripada Home Affair Ministry UK, bermula dari 1 November 2007, setiap pelajar yang ingin melanjutkan pelajaran ke UK dimestikan untuk mendapat perlepasan ATAS, selain daripada visa untuk pelajar.
In short, this ATAS clearance is needed if you are doing postgraduate study , master or phD, in certain areas. That certain areas is said to be sensitive due to its content that may(or may not) helps terrorism. As you can imagined, the said certain areas are in science, engineering and technology. You could check whether you need to have ATAS clearance or not from the website below.
One thing that will make your preparation to UK going haywire is that you need to have ATAS clearance BEFORE you apply for visa application! You'd think that just it right?

ATAS clearance will only be given to succesful candidate AFTER 15 working day! That amounts to almost 3 weeks. In order to apply for ATAS, you need to have unconditional offer letter from your destination University and ATAS document that you need to fill up.
ATAS application is easy on the other hand. It is done online, and you can track the progress of the application online too.
